On Block Island, the ferry dock is within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and some of the best white-sandy beaches in the Northeast. The ferry makes up to four trips daily. Parking is available on site and in nearby parking garages, close to Amtrak's New London station.

The cruising speed is around 35 knots (40 mph). The ferry is equipped with comfortable, modern airline-style seating on two enclosed air-conditioned decks. For those who prefer the great outdoors, an outside deck is available for viewing the scenery on the trip between New London and Block Island.

Other passenger amenities include a satellite television entertainment system and culinary offerings that include homemade pastries, personal pizzas, hot soft pretzels, and other snack options, along with craft beers, wines, and specialty cocktails including Cross Sound Deli's famous Bloody Mary.

Built in 1990 and introduced into service in 1991 on the United Kingdom to Channel Island service under the name Condor 9, the ferry was renamed when purchased by Block Island Express and honors Jessica Wronowski, who co-owns BIFS with her brother, Adam Wronowski.
