Canoe and kayak rentals are available at Windigo and Rock Harbor for use in the immediate vicinity. Some of the ferries are capable of transporting your boat to the island if you want to paddle the inland lakes.

Guided boat tours are offered out of Rock Harbor on board the MV Sandy starting in early June and ending in early September.

Ranger-led programs are available in the Rock Harbor, Daisy Farm, and Windigo areas as well as on board the Ranger III.

Fun Facts

The Ranger III is the largest vessel owned and operated by the National Park Service.

There are only 19 species of mammals, compared to the over 40 species found on the surrounding mainland.

The ecological study of wolves on Isle Royale is the longest-running large mammal predator-prey study on earth. The study’s 50th anniversary was celebrated in 2008.
