Fun Facts
The Coon Rapids dam was built in 1913 by the Northern Mississippi Power Company. It took 1,000 people just over one year to complete.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources completed a $16 million project in 2015 to rehabilitate the Coon Rapids Dam to serve as a barrier to aquatic invasive species, including invasive carp. The barrier prevents them from traveling up the Mississippi River to the waters of northern Minnesota.
