Why You Should Go...

The only freestanding, independent aquarium in Ohio is located in downtown Cleveland, just steps away from the Cuyahoga River. Housed in a former powerhouse, the Aquarium creatively reimagines the historic brick building, with tropical reefs taking the place of former coal chutes and moon jellyfish filling what once was a smokestack.

Immersive, sensory-rich galleries allow guests to travel from freshwater rivers to saltwater oceans in about 90 minutes. Many of the Aquarium's more than 50 exhibits offer up-close, 360-degree views and its 230,000-gallon shark gallery even has a walk-through seatube so you can watch a sand tiger shark glide slowly overhead.

Stingray and invertebrate touch pools, exhibit feedings, animal encounters and underwater SCUBA diver Q&As make every visit memorable. Guest Experience Associates stationed throughout the Aquarium are available to answer all your aquatic animal questions.

Close is at 5 pm, with the last tickets sold at 4 pm.

Fun Facts

The first time the Aquarium filled its 230,000-gallon shark exhibit, it took 12 hours. That's a lot of water!

The Aquarium is located in the historic FirstEnergy Powerhouse. It was built in 1892 as a coal-burning furnace to generate electricity for streetcars.

The spotted turtle is a threatened species in Northeast Ohio. Through its nonprofit Splash Fund, the Aquarium is working with partners across the region to help boost its numbers in the wild.
