Come for a daytime prison tour between the hours of 10am and 5pm, grab some dinner at one of Fairmount’s many restaurants and bars, and then come back for Terror Behind the Walls at night.

Fun Facts

Al Capone served his first prison sentence at Eastern State Penitentiary in 1929. During Terror Behind the Walls, you can live it up at The Speakeasy at Al Capone’s Cell. Live entertainment includes a lounge singer, contortionist, and table games.

Jack Osbourne, host of the Travel Channel’s Portals to Hell, says, “Eastern State Penitentiary really freaked me out… The place is terrifying… Easily one of the most haunted places I’ve ever been to.”

Terror Behind the Walls began as a one-day event to raise funds for the historic site back in 1991. Now, it is Eastern State’s largest annual fundraiser, with 32 show nights per year.
