Visit the Clark Art Institute for Norwegian painter Nikolai Astrup’s first North American exhibition of paintings and prints. Known for their powerful, vibrant palette, and enchanting realism of amazing landscapes, these works are part of why Astrup is considered one of Norway’s most important artists, even if he is widely unknown outside of his country. Nikolai Astrup: Visions of Norway features more than eighty-five works celebrating this brilliant painter, printmaker, and horticulturalist.
Ground/work invites you to walk the grounds of the Clark and discover the balance between fragility and resilience that both nature and the passage of time reveal while providing something interesting with every visit. This exhibit enhances the natural beauty of the trails, pastures, and woods that inspired Ground/work and is the Clark's first outdoor exhibition.
Featuring works from Kelly Akashi, Nairy Baghramian, Jennie C. Jones, Eva LeWitt, Analia Saban, and Haegue Yang.
See the art of Erin Shirreff in this yearlong exhibition in public spaces around the Clark. Examine how she puts analog and digital media, two and three dimensions, and still and moving images in conversation with each other, and discover the fascination surrounding the mythmaking behind art history. Shirreff looks at how history affects art by placing it in the historical record and asks us to think about what is left of the artist’s work and whether or not it is recognizable after the fact.
Claude Lalanne and François-Xavier Lalanne - Nature Transformed
The inspired and excellently crafted work of Claude Lalanne and François-Xavier Lalanne come together to explore the relationship between the human, animal, and vegetal worlds. Using nature for inspiration throughout their careers, these artists created sculpture, furniture, and other works that bring nature to objects in surprising ways.
This exhibit is the first American art museum exhibition dedicated to the couple in over 40 years and the first exhibition since Claude’s death in April 2019.
