Tours and performances last approximately 30—40 minutes and take place on multiple levels in 17th-and 18th-century period homes. Visitors are standing, walking or climbing stairs during these experiences.

Guided tours are offered periodically throughout the day, last tour begins at closing. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.

Audio and written translations of the tour are available in Brazilian Portuguese, Cantonese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, and Spanish.

The house of the Seven Gables is one of the oldest known timber framed mansions in North America. 

The Staffordshire china pattern, available in the Museum Store, has been sold at The Gables for over a century.

    See how Nathaniel Hawthorne felt about his family’s 1692 legacy in this theatrical experience in the home he was born in. Learn about the Salem Witch Trials through the eyes of the author. His own ancestor, Judge John Hathorne had a hand to play in the tragic events of 1692. Performances begin every ten minutes in The Nathaniel Hawthorne Birthplace. Each lasts about 35 minutes. See both Legacy of the Hanging Judge and Spirits of the Gables with a combination ticket option.
