More than 100,000 people witnessed the site dedication in 1921 and more than 150,000 spectators viewed the opening in 1926 featuring U.S. President Calvin Coolidge; the largest crowd a president had ever addressed.

The collection includes the largest remaining section of the Pantheon de la Guerre, formerly the largest painting in the world at 402 feet by 45 feet that originally featured 6,000 prominent people from the Allied nations that participated in WWI.
