Featuring a variety of events throughout the city, the festival brings a taste of Japan to Philadelphia and highlights the beauty of Japanese sakura – the flowering cherry trees that brighten Philly’s parks and streets.

The centerpiece of the event, The Sakura Weekend is taking place at West Fairmount Park’s Centennial Arboretum & Horticulture Center on April 13-14, 10:30 AM – 4 PM. The event will feature live music, dance performances, karaoke, cosplay contests, vendor fair, and much more! Admission is free!

Additional programming is happening throughout April at partner organizations and museums, including a film retrospective at Lightbox Film Center, cultural workshops and demonstrations, sushi classes, and seminars. Learn more at subarucherryblossom.org.

Fun Facts

The first flowering cherry trees in Philly were gifted in 1926 from the Japanese government. In 1933, Japanese residents from the region planted an additional 500 alongside Kelly Drive. JASGP cares for the trees in the spirit of international friendship and has planted more than 1,000 since 1998.
