Crater Rock Museum

2002 Scenic Ave · Central Point, OR

Why you should go…

Crater Rock Museum is run by the nonprofit Roxy Ann Gem and Mineral Society and has grown since 1954 into a 12,000-square-foot facility. Exhibits cover world-class minerals, petrified wood, prehistoric fossils, Native American and local history, with a gift shop of local artisan work and stones from around the world. Kids can fill a bucket with rocks for a small fee, and the second Saturday of each month is Kids Day with free short classes. Open Tuesday through Saturday 10am to 5pm, last entry 4pm; adult admission is $7.

Good to know

General museums guidance

Habits that pay off across this whole category, not rules for this one venue. Always check the official site for the specifics.

  • Check the special exhibition separately

Touring shows usually carry their own ticket and their own opening hours, listed apart from general admission.

  • Look for the free window

Many museums run community days, member evenings, or discounted late openings. It is worth a look before you pay full price.

  • Travel light through the door

Large bags and backpacks often have to go to a coat check, and lines for it move slowly at opening.

  • Weekday mornings beat weekend afternoons

School groups clear out by early afternoon midweek, while weekends stay busy from late morning on.
