Fort Peck Dam
157 Yellowstone Rd · Fort Peck, MT
Why you should go…
Fort Peck Dam is a hydraulic earthfill dam on the Missouri River, built between 1933 and 1940 and stretching 21,026 feet across the valley. It holds back Fort Peck Lake, which runs more than 130 miles and has about 1,520 miles of shoreline. At the Fort Peck Interpretive Center and Museum near the powerhouses you meet a life-size model of Peck's Rex, a Tyrannosaurus found nearby in 1997, plus two large aquariums of lake and river fish and exhibits on the dam's construction.

Good to know
General sightseeing guidance
Habits that pay off across this whole category, not rules for this one venue. Always check the official site for the specifics.
The forecast is part of the ticket
Haze, low cloud, and rain flatten a view. Clear-day visits are worth rearranging your plans for.
Golden hour sells out first
Sunset slots at observation decks and cruises are the first to go, so book those further ahead.
Dress a layer warmer
It is always breezier up high and out on the water than it feels at street level.
Timed entry is common
Plenty of landmarks release tickets in windows rather than at the door, so check before you walk over.
