157 Wooster St · New Haven, CT
Frank Pepe opened his pizzeria on Wooster Street in 1925 after years of selling tomato pies from a wagon in the Wooster Square market. The pies still come out of coal-fired ovens, and the two to know are the White Clam Pizza and the Original Tomato Pie. The original 1925 oven burns next door at The Spot, an annex the family reclaimed in 1981. Seating is walk-in only, first come, first served, so expect a line at busy times.
