Why you should go…

Goderich is a harbour town on Lake Huron in Huron County, Ontario, nicknamed Canada's Prettiest Town for its turquoise shoreline and tree-lined streets. Its downtown, known as The Square, is laid out in an octagon around the 1856 Huron County Courthouse and lined with cafes and boutiques. The town has three Lake Huron beaches linked by a waterfront boardwalk and the Menesetung Bridge trail, plus the Huron Historic Gaol, which operated from 1841 into the 1970s and now offers guided tours. Grant Haven Media, a Huron County publisher, produces the annual Goderich Visitors Guide that promotes the town to travelers.

Good to know

General sightseeing guidance

Habits that pay off across this whole category, not rules for this one venue. Always check the official site for the specifics.

  • The forecast is part of the ticket

Haze, low cloud, and rain flatten a view. Clear-day visits are worth rearranging your plans for.

  • Golden hour sells out first

Sunset slots at observation decks and cruises are the first to go, so book those further ahead.

  • Dress a layer warmer

It is always breezier up high and out on the water than it feels at street level.

  • Timed entry is common

Plenty of landmarks release tickets in windows rather than at the door, so check before you walk over.
