About Golden Gate Park

Golden Gate Park runs more than three miles from the Haight to Ocean Beach and covers 1,017 acres between the Richmond and Sunset districts. It opened in 1870 and draws an estimated 24 million visitors a year. Inside are the de Young Museum, the California Academy of Sciences, the Conservatory of Flowers, Blue Heron Lake (formerly Stow Lake) and the bandshell that hosts free shows. The eastern part of John F. Kennedy Drive is permanently car-free, which makes it an easy place to walk, skate or bike.
