Founded in 1988, Great Lakes was Ohio's first craft brewery, and its Ohio City brewpub, in a Victorian-era building across from West Side Market, still pours the classics at the source: Dortmunder Gold, Edmund Fitzgerald Porter, and the cult-favorite Christmas Ale. Order a beer-cheese pretzel at the tiger-mahogany bar, said to bear bullet holes from Eliot Ness's era, then book a guided brewery tour with beer samples (and an optional souvenir glass) to see how it all gets made.
