About McCarren Park

McCarren Park spreads over about 35 acres and four city blocks on the line between Williamsburg and Greenpoint. Its ball fields, track, tennis and bocce courts and lawns fill up with kickball leagues, soccer games and sunbathers. The landmarked McCarren Play Center holds one of the 11 pools Robert Moses opened with WPA funds in 1936; it sat empty from 1984 until a $50 million restoration reopened it in 2012. The 329-by-151-foot pool is free in summer, typically 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with a cleaning break from 3 to 4. Bring your own combination lock.
