About Times Square

Times Square is the stretch of Midtown Manhattan where Broadway meets Seventh Avenue, between 42nd and 47th Streets, lit day and night by giant electronic billboards. It was called Long Acre Square until 1904, when The New York Times built its tower here, and the New Year's Eve ball drop has been held here since 1907. Broadway through the square was closed to cars in 2009 and turned into pedestrian plazas. For the classic view, sit on the red steps in Duffy Square; the TKTS booth below them sells discount Broadway tickets.
