About Big Basin Redwoods State Park

Big Basin Redwoods, set aside in 1902, is California's oldest state park and holds the largest continuous stand of ancient coast redwoods south of San Francisco. Some trees are more than 50 feet around and 1,000 to 1,800 years old. On August 18, 2020, the CZU Lightning Complex Fire burned 97 percent of the park and destroyed all its historic buildings, but most old-growth redwoods survived and the forest is regrowing. Day-use parking is $6 plus a $2 fee with a reservation, or $10 without; reservations are highly recommended and campgrounds remain closed. There is no cell service at the entrance, so do not count on a ride-share home.
