Why you should go…

Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument is Bureau of Land Management public land in the mountains southeast of Ashland, reached from I-5 via Highway 66 or Dead Indian Memorial Road. Visitors hike day trails near Green Springs and Pilot Rock, walk or ride stock on the Pacific Crest Trail, camp at Hyatt Lake Campground (Memorial Day through Labor Day, reservable on recreation.gov) and ski the Buck Prairie Nordic trails in winter. Technical climbing is allowed only on Pilot Rock and is closed February 1 to July 30 for nesting peregrine falcons. The contact station beside the Green Springs Inn on Highway 66 is open year-round and staffed on summer weekends.
