About Elizabeth M. Watkins Community Museum

This Lawrence museum presents local history through exhibits spread across several floors. The upper levels cover civil rights struggles, daily life in the county from the 1800s into the early 2000s, and the growth of Lawrence from a settlement on the frontier into a midwestern city. Visitors can see a 1920s electric car and a desk once used by James Naismith, the inventor of basketball. Entry costs nothing, and the building stands on the corner of 11th and Massachusetts Streets.
