Fort Laramie began as a private fur trading fort in 1834, and the Army bought it in 1849 to guard the Oregon Trail. It hosted the Fort Laramie treaties of 1851 and 1868 before the last soldiers left in 1890. You can tour restored structures including Old Bedlam, the oldest known military building in Wyoming, the post trader's store and the cavalry barracks, with living history programs on some days.
