About Fort Mountain State Park

Fort Mountain State Park sits near the Cohutta Wilderness in north Georgia. Its best-known feature is a mysterious rock wall on the mountain's peak, whose origin is debated. Hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders can use a network of trails through hardwood forest, past blueberry thickets, and around a lake. A stone fire tower built by the Civilian Conservation Corps stands on the summit, and overlooks offer wide views. In summer, a sandy beach on the lake is open. Visitors can stay in cottages, campgrounds, platform campsites, or backcountry sites, and can rent boats and paddle equipment seasonally. The area was long home to Cherokee people, and the park offers a link to that history.
