The Adena people built this conical burial mound between 250 and 150 B.C., and today it stands about 62 feet high and 240 feet across in the middle of Moundsville. The Delf Norona Museum on the grounds, opened by the state in 1978, shows artifacts and explains how the mound was raised. Admission to the complex is free. The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday, and the mound and outdoor areas close at 4:30 p.m.
