About Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village

Meadowcroft is a National Historic Landmark built around a huge rock overhang that people used for shelter about 19,000 years ago, one of the oldest known sites of human habitation in North America. Hour-long tours of the excavation run daily in season. Outside, villages recreate a 16th-century Eastern Woodland Indian village, an 18th-century log cabin and trading post, and a 19th-century village with a blacksmith shop and one-room school. Plan on at least three hours.
