About Hampton University Museum

The museum sits on the Hampton University campus and holds collections that span African American fine art, African culture, Native American history, and Asian and Oceanic objects. Its galleries include a first floor focused on African traditions and a second floor with about two centuries of African American art, plus rotating exhibits. Visitors can also learn about Native Americans who studied at Hampton Normal and Agricultural Institute. The museum's stated mission is to collect, preserve, study, and display works that show the heritage of African, Native American, Oceanic, and Asian peoples, along with contemporary African American and American Indian artists.
