Hill-Stead is a 33,000-square-foot Colonial Revival house from 1901, designed by Theodate Pope Riddle, one of the first women architects in the US, for her father's Impressionist collection. You see works by Monet, Degas, Manet, Whistler and Cassatt hung among the family's original furniture on a guided tour of about an hour. The 152-acre grounds include a sunken garden by Beatrix Farrand from about 1920 and woodland trails. Adult admission is $20.
