One of Florida's eight original state parks, created in 1938, this park splits around a fast section of the Hillsborough River with small Class II rapids, which are rare in the state. The Civilian Conservation Corps built its first structures, including a suspension bridge that still stands. About seven miles of trails, canoe and kayak rentals, fishing and camping fill a day. Fort Foster, a replica of an 1836 Second Seminole War fort, can only be seen on weekend tours.
