About Kip's Castle Park

Kip's Castle is a large mansion built to resemble a medieval Norman castle, sitting on the ridge of First Mountain across the Montclair and Verona townships. The grounds cover eleven acres and offer wide views toward New York City. Exterior walls use local trap rock trimmed with sandstone, and the adjoining two-story carriage house is also built of that stone. Inside, the castle has thirty rooms of varied shapes, several with vaulted ceilings and six ornate fireplaces. At the time of the source page, the interior was closed to the public, while the grounds remained open for walking, scenic overlooks, bird watching, and seasonal programs.
