Lake Tawakoni State Park covers 376 acres of oak forest on the south shore of Lake Tawakoni, a 37,879-acre reservoir on the Sabine River built in 1960 as a water supply for Dallas. The park opened in 2002 and is run by Texas Parks and Wildlife. It has a four-lane boat ramp and fish cleaning station, nearly five miles of trails and campsites with water and electric or full hookups. Birders have recorded more than 200 species here. The park often fills up, so reserve day passes and campsites ahead.
