Lexington Cemetery opened in 1848 as a rural garden cemetery and has grown from 40 to 170 acres, with more than 64,000 burials. It doubles as an arboretum, planted with dogwoods, magnolias, cherries, boxwood and seasonal beds of tulips, irises and lilies. Statesman Henry Clay, Confederate general John Hunt Morgan and basketball coach Adolph Rupp are buried here. A map and a mobile app for self-guided visits are on the cemetery's website. The grounds are open daily 8 am to 5 pm.
