Opened in 1919, this nonprofit art museum is among the oldest in Oklahoma. It is named for Father Gregory Gerrer, a Benedictine monk and artist who gathered objects during his travels in Europe, Africa, and South America. Permanent holdings include Egyptian, Greek, and Roman works, art from the Renaissance through the early 1900s, and large Native American, African, Oceanic, and Eastern collections. Some regard its Egyptian galleries as the finest between Chicago and Los Angeles. The museum also mounts rotating special exhibitions through the year. It sits on the former St. Gregory's University campus, and it operated independently through the campus changes.
