About Museum for Art in Wood

Located in Philadelphia's Old City district, this museum presents contemporary art created in wood. Its galleries rotate exhibitions, and its permanent collection holds roughly 1,200 handmade objects from many countries, ranging from everyday household pieces to modern sculpture. Visitors can also browse the Fleur and Charles Bresler Research Library, which focuses on woodworking history, and the museum store, which sells handmade goods by regional and international makers. The institution runs an artist residency program, workshops, talks, and a First Friday speaker series. It began as a nonprofit in 1986 and was renamed in 2023 to reflect its wider programming.
