About Museum of Disability History

The Museum of Disability History sits on the grounds of the Viscardi Center in Albertson, on Long Island. It pairs artworks with historical objects to show how disabled people have lived, worked, and organized over time. Highlights include a Hall Braille Typewriter from 1892, an Invacar mobility vehicle from a 1946 design, and a video documenting the 1990 Capitol Crawl, when disabled activists climbed the U.S. Capitol steps to press for rights. Visits are self-guided, and the museum also offers group tours, school trips, and traveling exhibits.
