Cool off at the Humboldt Basin splash pad and stroll an Olmsted-designed park on Buffalo's East Side, home of the Buffalo Museum of Science.
Fillmore Ave between Northampton St and Best St, Buffalo, NY · Buffalo, NY
This East Side park was laid out by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux around 1870 as The Parade, became Humboldt Park in 1896 and took Dr. King's name in 1977. An 1895 redesign added a wading pool more than 500 feet across; its basin now holds a summer splash pad. The park's 1929 building houses the Buffalo Museum of Science, and the grounds also keep a 1925 casino, a 1903 shelter house, a 1909 greenhouse, the 1983 King tribute plaza and an inclusive playground. Fillmore Avenue runs through the middle.
