About National Postal Museum

The Smithsonian's postal museum fills the 1914 City Post Office building next to Union Station, which served as the city's main post office until 1986. Three airmail planes hang in the 90-foot atrium, along with an 1851 stagecoach and a 1932 Ford Model A postal truck. The William H. Gross Stamp Gallery draws on a national collection of more than 5.9 million items. Admission is free and no tickets are needed; take the Red Line to Union Station and use the Massachusetts Avenue exit.
