Founded in 1938, the museum is the largest cultural institution in the Coachella Valley, housed in a 150,000 square foot building with more than 12,000 objects in its permanent collection. Holdings span 19th to 21st century contemporary California art, classic western and Native American art, Mesoamerican and Mexican art, European modern art, and American photography. The museum also contains the 433-seat Annenberg Theater and offers free admission on Thursday evenings from 5 to 8pm.
