Why you should go…

The Route of the Hiawatha follows a former Milwaukee Road rail line through the Bitterroot Mountains between East Portal, Montana and Pearson, Idaho. Riders start with a pass through the 1.66 mile St. Paul Pass Tunnel and coast downhill past seven sky high trestles, with shuttle buses carrying bikes back to the top. The Idaho Panhandle National Forests and Lookout Pass Ski and Recreation Area manage the trail, which is open roughly Memorial Day weekend through late September.
