About Springfield Armory National Historic Site

Springfield Armory made small arms for the US military from 1794 until it closed in 1968, and the National Park Service now runs its Main Arsenal as a museum. It holds what the park calls the largest collection of historic US military small arms. The Organ of Muskets, 647 Model 1861 rifle muskets in tall racks, gets its name from a Longfellow poem. Entry is free; the museum sits on the Springfield Technical Community College campus, so follow the signs to the clock tower with the flag.
