Southern tip of Manhattan, State St at Battery Pl · New York, NY
The Battery is a 25-acre park at the southern tip of Manhattan, facing New York Harbor. You can walk through Castle Clinton, a fort built to defend the harbor during the War of 1812 that now holds ticket booths for ferries to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The Battery Bosque garden by Piet Oudolf grows around a grove of 140 plane trees, and the SeaGlass Carousel seats riders inside fish shapes. Memorials include the East Coast Memorial and The Immigrants statue.
