Open since 1900, the Toledo Zoo & Aquarium is home to more than 10,000 animals of about 720 species. Exhibits include Africa! with giraffes and zebras, Arctic Encounter with polar bears and seals, Tembo Trail with elephants and hippos, and Kingdom of the Apes. The aquarium, renovated in 2015, holds over 3,000 aquatic animals and has touch pools. Several buildings date from the 1930s Works Progress Administration era, including the Reptile House and a glass-block Aviary.
