The route hugs the Pacific shoreline and winds through Del Monte Forest, passing golf courses, mansions and pullouts such as Point Joe, Bird Rock and Fanshell Overlook. The Lone Cypress, a wind-shaped Monterey cypress on a rock above the surf, is the stop most people come for. Drivers pay a per-vehicle fee at the gate, while cyclists and walkers enter free.
