The Air Zoo began in 1977 as the Kalamazoo Aviation History Museum, founded by WWII pilots Sue and Pete Parish, and took its name from planes nicknamed Warhawk, Wildcat and Hellcat. Its collection includes an SR-71B Blackbird, many airworthy antique aircraft, a giant hand-painted mural called Century of Flight, flight simulators and amusement rides. The museum is a Smithsonian Affiliate with two buildings, so start at the Flight Innovation Center on Portage Road. Adults pay $19.50, children 5 to 17 pay $17.50, and parking is free.
