Angels Flight Railway

351 S Hill St · Los Angeles, CA

Why you should go…

Angels Flight is a narrow-gauge funicular that has carried riders up and down Bunker Hill in downtown Los Angeles since 1901. Its two counterbalanced cars, Olivet and Sinai, cover 298 feet of track with a 96 foot rise between Hill Street and California Plaza on Grand Avenue. The railway was dismantled in 1969, rebuilt half a block south in 1996, and returned to service in 2017. You board at the lower station on Hill Street or at the top on Grand Avenue.

Good to know

General sightseeing guidance

Habits that pay off across this whole category, not rules for this one venue. Always check the official site for the specifics.

  • The forecast is part of the ticket

Haze, low cloud, and rain flatten a view. Clear-day visits are worth rearranging your plans for.

  • Golden hour sells out first

Sunset slots at observation decks and cruises are the first to go, so book those further ahead.

  • Dress a layer warmer

It is always breezier up high and out on the water than it feels at street level.

  • Timed entry is common

Plenty of landmarks release tickets in windows rather than at the door, so check before you walk over.
