A Virginia Tech memorial of 32 engraved Hokie Stones honoring members of the campus community who died in the April 16 tragedy.
Virginia Tech campus, Drillfield area, Blacksburg, VA 24060 · Blacksburg, VA
The memorial grew from a student-led volunteer group that placed 32 Hokie Stones on the Drillfield in the hours after the tragedy. Those stones inspired the permanent memorial, which dedicates 32 engraved stones to members of the Hokie family who lost their lives. Two stone paths allow visitors to view the stones and a flower area at the base of the Reviewing Stand. Shrubs form a backdrop, and ground lighting illuminates the stones at night. A separate central stone honors all those killed and injured that day, and benches honor survivors.
