About Aztalan State Park

Aztalan was a Middle Mississippian village on the Crawfish River that thrived between about A.D. 1000 and 1300. Its people built large flat-topped pyramid mounds and a stockade around the town, and parts of the stockade and two mounds have been rebuilt. The 172-acre park is a National Historic Landmark and mostly open prairie, with two miles of trail along the river. A vehicle pass is required: $13 a day for Wisconsin plates, $16 for out-of-state cars. Please stay off the mounds.
