Visitor Center, Building 5, Constitution Rd, Charlestown · Boston, MA
The Charlestown Navy Yard served the U.S. Navy for 174 years, from 1800 to 1974, and its workers built more than 200 ships. Thirty acres of it are now part of Boston National Historical Park. USS Constitution and the World War II destroyer USS Cassin Young are tied up here, and Dry Dock 1, built in 1833, is still used to repair both ships. Start at the visitor center in Building 5, where the exhibit "Serving the Naval Fleet" tells the yard's story. Adults boarding Constitution may be asked for a photo ID.
