Chatfield Hollow State Park sits in Killingworth and covers about 412 acres next to Cockaponset State Forest. Visitors can hike a network of roughly 18 miles of trails, climb on rocky ledges and small rock-fall caves, and explore the valley's stream and pond. Mountain bikers find some of the most technical terrain in the state, while anglers can fish for stocked trout. Schreeder Pond offers a sandy beach for swimming, and the park has picnic tables, grills, and a rentable shelter. Reminders of earlier use include a restored water wheel, a covered bridge, old foundations from grist mill days, and an iron furnace site, and a seasonal nature center explains the local ecosystems.
