About Machimoodus State Park

This Connecticut state park covers about 300 acres of uplands, woodlands, meadows, and shoreline along the Salmon River and its cove. Visitors can walk roughly four and a half miles of former farm roads and trails, and two lookout points on Mount Tom offer views over several rivers. The park's ponds and wildflower meadows attract birds and butterflies throughout the year, and the site is also known for legends about underground rumbling that geologists later linked to small earthquakes.
