About Day Pond State Park

Day Pond State Park sits in Colchester and is managed by the state's energy and environment agency. Its pond draws visitors for swimming and trout fishing, and a picnic area and beach make it a relaxed day spot. A trail network of about five miles links to the neighboring Salmon River State Forest, where most of the trails are found and where hunting is allowed. A set of waterfalls lies within the park, and a trail cleared by a Scout gives easy access to them. The pond was built by the Day family, who used its water to run a sawmill, and stone foundations from that era remain. Visitors also find rocks that reveal the area's glacial and geologic history.
