The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is a narrow-gauge heritage railroad running 64 miles of historic track between Chama, New Mexico and Antonito, Colorado, jointly owned by the two states since 1970. The line was built by the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2012 for its engineering and well-preserved equipment. Trains climb over Cumbres Pass at 10,015 feet, the highest point reached by any North American narrow-gauge railroad, and cross the Toltec Gorge 600 feet above the Los Pinos River.
